I'm trying to get a crocheting group together at church. I've already got a place to donate the items; a local cancer resource center. They have requested that we make lap blankets (small afghans), and they want to give one to each newly-diagnosed cancer patient who comes there. We'll be making the lap blankets in different solid colors to symbolize the different types of cancer.

I'd love to hear input from others who have taken on similar projects.

Thanks in advance.

Croshay,
Hi! If I can answer any questions about running a charity project that makes afghans let me know - for four years I've been running a 100% volunteer, including me, group called The Handmade Afghans to Thank Our Armed Forces Project. It's has grown to over 450 members.... So let me know what questions you have! My email is rectangle6x9@comcast.net - drop me a note.
Best of luck on your wonderful project, Deborah

Make sure you can actually count on the people that say they're going to help, to make things (when they have time - which they never seem to find) or donate supplies but don't.

If you can find a good core group of people then you should be good to go.
