Ok. I got this pattern book from my grandmother yesterday. She heard I was making booties and hats for my newest niece..
I can read the patterns the problem is it is from 1949..and the hook it asked for is 1-bone #4 could someone give me some insight on how to figure out what hook to use .
Thank you !!

I "googled" it and came across a discussion on it. They talked about using different types of yarn(ex. fingerling etc) and also how to use one to try to make the guage(if your pattern has one) One person posted this link: http://www.crochetan....com/charts.htm
and by looking at that it would maybe be best to try a size E hook. I know with smaller items they usually use the lighter type yarns and smaller hooks. Good luck!
