Welcome to the ville :hook The part in parentheses is the stitch pattern multiple---number of stitches per row; and repeat---number of rows required for the stitch pattern. 2x1cluster, i don't know. What is the pattern name and source?

It's official--I cannot type the word "stitch", it always comes out "sttich".

This was on my late Mothers handwritten pattern. I think I finally figured it out.
Thanks all.
