I usually work with a G or F most times. With thread I usually use a 7 steel hook. :hook

For afghans & hats, I stick to H & I unless its more than one strand. For ami, I tend to use the F the most, E if its a thin worsted. I've only worked with thread twice for very very short amounts (literally 2 little granny squares) so I don't have a favorite steel hook :)

I also use the I hook the most and own 2 of them. I almost bought another one on my recent yarn trip.

It depends on the project and weight of the yarn.:)

Nearly everything I make is amigurumi so I tend to only ever use a 4mm hook (is that a G in US?). Sometimes I use a 3mm though for little things

I'm most always making tapestry crocheted bags and I use a 3MM hook with RHSS yarn. They ALWAYS turn out to be firm, non-sagging bags :)

I've used other sizes, but the 3MM is my faorite by far!

H I J. Depends on the afghan. I tend to use H if it's going to be a baby ghan and I or J for adult. Round ripples I like the I or J

I prefer the smaller hooks, but for worsted weight I tend to go with size 5 (F) thru 7 (has no letter)...

Mine used to be a G hook, but the soft touch kit has a 4.5 and that is my go to now.

For most patterns - I for RHSS or RH Classic, H for Pound of Love and I Love This Yarn, J for Caron One Pound. For a dense pattern, like the corner to corner afghan stitch, up a size; for a very open pattern, down a size. At the moment I'm trying to work down my RH stash, so mostly I.

I only make afghans so the gauge doesn't matter so much.
