Teddy bear hat with ear

Feel free to sell any completed item made from this pattern!
Please do not sell pattern.

Hat size is 0-3 months depending on yarn used.

Supplies needed:
Small amounts of baby weigh yarn
F hook
Tapestry needle
Stitch Marker
Optional, ribbon for girl teddy hat

Terms used:
Ch 2
Sc= single crochet
Sc-dec = single crochet decrease
Slp st = slip stitch

This hat is really versatile. If you want a smaller hat, stop a row or two before row 11. Rows 1-10 are your increasing rows. If you want a bigger hat, turn row 11 into an increase row…. (2 sc, sc in next 10 sc)
If you want more of a brim to flip up, add on a few more rows.
The ears are adjustable also. I added on optional extra rows to adjust ears for bigger hats.

Hat and ears are working in one continuous spiral. Do not join row ends. Instead, use a stitch marker to mark each row end.

Hat
Starting at top of hat and working down.
Ch 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sc)
2) 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc)
3) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc) repeat around (18 sc)
4) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc) repeat around (24 sc)
5) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around (30 sc)
6) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around (36 sc)
7) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 5 sc) repeat around (42 sc)
8) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 6 sc) repeat around (48 sc)
9) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 7 sc) repeat around (54 sc)
10) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 8 sc) repeat around (60 sc)
11-32) sc in each sc around
FO
Weave in ends
Flip bottom part of brim up

teddy hats 3.jpg

Ears (make 2)
Ch 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sc)
2) 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc)
3) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc) repeat around (18 sc)

If ears look like they are going to be too small, add this row on
3 ½) (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around (24 sc)
4-5) sc in each sc around
For both versions
6) (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around (15 sc smaller ears, and 20 sc for bigger ears)

Pin ears to sides of hat and sew into place.
Sew on ribbon if desired.
Hat complete!

Beautiful hats. I love how the ears are - not just flat but curved in the middle. Very nice work that you do.

Okay, these things are darling, I'm going to upsize them by using WW yarn and a bigger hook and make some for Operation Christmas Child :manyheart

I love this hat! But is anyone else having trouble with the pattern? I went over it several times and can't seem to get it right! Help! Right at the beginning, after the first round of 6 sc, the next round, 2, it says you end up with 12 sc, if following the pattern as it is shown, (2sc in first sc, sc in next sc) there is no way you can get 12 sc in that round. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Fixed the pattern!

Sorry about that. It should work out just fine now.

Thanks for pointing it out!
