Amy Shelton comes from a family of crocheters. Although she learned the basics of crochet from her third-grade teacher, Amy’s mother and grandmother, longtime crocheters themselves, helped Amy expand her skills. She has been happily crocheting, left-handed, for over 30 years. Her right-handed daughter also crochets. Amy feels a strong sense of connection to family and community through crochet.

When she’s not crocheting for one of several charity projects with her local women’s group or making gifts for her family, Amy enjoys crocheting for herself when she can squeeze in the time. She has been known to turn heads with her extensive crocheted wardrobe of clothing and handbags, which are her favorite things to crochet. She prefers working with natural fibers or blends, especially for clothing, and her favorite hooks are Boye aluminum. She has recently expanded her skills into pattern design.

Amy joined the Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) in 2006, and became a professional member of CGOA in 2008. Amy was the featured luncheon speaker at the CGOA’s Professional Development Day in 2008.

Amy registered as a member of Crochetville in early 2005. Barely over a year later, she volunteered to help out, and shortly thereafter became a co-administrator. Then in 2007, Amy and Donna established Crochetville LLC together.

Some of Amy’s favorite responsibilities at Crochetville are building relationships with advertisers, crochet professionals, and members; writing and recording the Crochet Unraveled podcast; writing yarn, pattern, and product reviews; and developing the online class program. She is also continually looking for new exciting things to bring to the Crochetville experience for all its members. Amy says, "It is so satisfying to discover and implement new ways to help Crochetville’s members expand their crochet skills and indulge their passion for this creative art form."

Amy received a BSBA in Finance from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1992, graduating with a 4.0 GPA in all business classes. She has over 14 years of customer service experience, with seven of those at the managerial level. She also has over 13 years of experience providing administrative services to a local high-technology small business non-profit organization.

Residing in the Huntsville, Alabama area for the past 25 years, Amy shares her life with her husband (a software engineer who mainly writes software for the space shuttle and international space station programs), two children, and three cats. She is involved with Huntsville Youth Orchestra and Sparkman High School band where her daughter is an accomplished flutist. She is active in many volunteer/mission opportunities at her church, including co-chairing the Angel Food Ministries program. In addition to crochet, she enjoys a variety of hobbies: knitting socks, scrapbooking, stamping, cardmaking, sewing, cross-stitching, and reading.
